“Desde Lejos”
(English: “From Afar”)
In "Desde Lejos", I am exploring what the passage of time does on a displaced family. Referencing a song lyric from “Mi Viejo” by Piero De Benedictis, I am creating pieces that speak to my great grandmother who had Alzheimers. She watched the family migrate to the U.S. while she was left behind during the early 1970s when the 12 year civil war was happening in El Salvador. A momentary pause in time, and yet, information vanishes with traces of familiarity.
We can only watch from afar, as she has had to.
We can only watch from afar, as she has had to.
